Proctoring & Monitoring

Each layer is enabled per assessment in the builder's settings, and they work independently — use any one alone or all three together.

With live monitoring enabled, the Live page in the workspace lists every assessment with participants currently working, and a drill-in view shows each participant's progress in real time.

Participants' answers auto-save every few seconds while they work, so what you see is their actual current state — including their identity when the assessment collects it, and drag-and-drop questions arranged exactly as the participant sees them.

Sessions that go quiet are marked stale after a few minutes, so you can tell an abandoned attempt from an active one.

Anomaly detection watches for suspicious behavior during an attempt. Every signal has a weight; when the cumulative weight crosses the sensitivity threshold, the configured action fires.

Lenient, moderate, and strict control how much cumulative signal weight is tolerated before the threshold trips.

Signals

Client-side signals can be toggled individually per assessment. Multiple sessions is detected server-side whenever detection is enabled.

Reviewing events

Flagged submissions carry an anomaly badge in the submissions list, and each one has a full event timeline — what happened, when, and with what weight.

Participants are never monitored covertly: when detection or monitoring is on, the assessment's start screen discloses it — including whether violations end the attempt automatically.

For the strictest setting, require Safe Exam Browser — the assessment can then only be loaded and submitted from within SEB, a dedicated lockdown browser that prevents switching apps, copying, or opening other sites.

Participants who open the link in a normal browser see instructions to launch it in SEB instead.
